NIGRUMHODO / HOW IT WORKS

Reading footprints.

The full method — from a single snippet to a map of every trail your users wear.

STEP 01 — PLANT

One snippet, zero friction

Add a lightweight script to your app. It records movement — screens viewed, taps, backtracks, hesitations — and nothing else. No keystrokes, no form contents, no personally identifying information. Like setting up a trail camera, not a wiretap.

STEP 02 — AGGREGATE

Footprints become trails

Individual sessions are noisy; thousands of them draw a map. Movement aggregates into flow diagrams where each trail's thickness is proportional to real usage. The paths nobody designed appear on their own:

  • Desire paths — heavily walked routes you never designed
  • Dead trails — features you maintain that nobody visits
  • Loops — places where users circle before giving up
STEP 03 — PAVE

Evidence for every trail

Each path ships with its numbers: how many walk it, where it starts, what designed flow it bypasses, and how the pattern is trending. Bring it to the roadmap meeting — "87% of users cut this corner" ends debates.

WHAT IT ISN'T

Honest boundaries

  • Not a full analytics suite — we do path deviation, not everything.
  • Not session replay — you get the map, not the surveillance footage.
  • Not automatic redesign — we show you where to pave; you decide how.

See your own trails.
